Japan has been offering eccentric gadgets for decades now: a tie with a built-in wallet, glasses with incorporated mini fans for the hottest days, a crutch to lean on and rest while standing on the underground just to name a few examples of the creativity of the designers from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Another characteristic of many of these gadgets is to be Kawaii!
Cute, sweet, tender, nice, colourful, inspired to the manga world: this is the meaning of kawaii, which often inspires the designers of the “very cute” Japanese brands.
The mini-kits I’m going to talk about now meets both the above mentioned characteristics: it is certainly weird and definitely kawaii.

-What is Popin Cookin?

Popin Cookin is a range of online purchasable DIY kits to make miniature candy food like pizzas, cheeseburgers with fries, sushi and any kinds of cakes, not bigger than a 2€ coin, looking and tasting exactly like the real food they reproduce.
In every kit you will find different aromatic powders which, mixed with water and poured into the provided moulds, will create any sorts of tiny, funny shaped food.

Someone may wonder how I found out about this pocket wizardry.
Am I maybe fond of Japanese products or alternative cooking techniques? Definitely not. I’m just a frequent user of the Internet, like many other boys and girls, and of channels like Youtube: and there I discovered the Popin Cookin.
On the web there are, in fact, countless videos of people from all over the world that have filmed the whole preparation procedure, from unboxing the kit to the final tasting, and enthusiastically show their results.

Here you have some examples of what I’m talking about:

-And you? What do you think about that?

Had you ever heard about Popin Cookin before? Would you like to try and “cook” your miniature favourite dish?
I’m very curious to try one of these weird kits: it now only remains for me to choose one and order it!
Which one would you choose?
