Testpoint recently conducted a taste test on a new yogurt flavor in Milan and Rome. The unique feature of the test was that the interviews involved mothers and their children, so the test was conducted at home.

A mother/child home test

Yogurt, as we know, has become an essential food for adults and children. Who doesn’t enjoy it for breakfast or as a snack? It’s a healthy, light, and nutritious food, suitable for both adults and children at various times of the day.

Precisely for this reason, to meet the ever-growing demand and satisfy all palates, the yogurt flavors appearing on supermarket shelves are increasingly numerous and appealing.

To assess the different perspectives and needs of adults and children, Testpoint recently recruited 200 pairs of mothers and children in Rome and Milan to taste a new type of yogurt together. It was a new flavor, not yet available in that product range.

How the test was conducted

The unique feature of this test was that mother and child had to taste the product together and then answer a short questionnaire administered directly by the interviewer at their homes.

Testpoint recruited 100 mother/child pairs in Milan and the same number in Rome. The interviewer visited the participants’ homes, bringing the product to be tasted in a cooler. The yogurt container was, of course, sealed (i.e., in anonymous packaging, so that the brand would not influence the participants’ evaluations).

Since the children involved were between the ages of 6 and 12, all interviews had to be conducted outside of school hours, i.e., in the afternoon and on weekends.

After tasting, the interviewer administered a short questionnaire to the child lasting about 5 minutes, and then asked the mother another questionnaire lasting about 15 minutes. Due to the presence of the children, the questionnaire was administered and not self-completed.

The aim of the test was to assess the satisfaction of adults and children with the new yogurt flavor, capturing their different perspectives.
