Testpoint recently conducted a product test in Milan, accompanied by a qualitative interview. This was a unique test because it involved testing a new floor cleaning system—a steam floor cleaner—in a location that closely resembled a home environment.

A bed and breakfast set up for the interviews

There’s no longer time for traditional household cleaning, and our homes are now organized to require thorough cleaning that’s also quick and easy to perform.

In recent years, a series of tools and devices have been launched on the market to make life easier for those responsible for cleaning, optimizing time and minimizing effort.

For one of these new devices, Testpoint recently organized a product test in Milan, followed by a traditional, moderated qualitative interview.

How the Test Was Conducted

Testpoint recruited 15 people in Milan who personally perform household cleaning and are responsible for purchasing this type of device. These individuals had to have a medium-to-high income, as the device being tested falls within a fairly high price range.

Regarding the location for the test, Testpoint rented a bed and breakfast for three days, so as to recreate a situation comparable to a home environment as closely as possible.

Each interview (product test + qualitative interview) lasted approximately one hour, so five interviews were conducted per day.

The first phase of the test involved observing the device’s design, colors, and ease of use. This was followed by the actual cleaning test: the interviewee had to clean the floor of a room in the B&B, verifying that the device could reach every corner of the room and under the furniture, and carefully observing the results. The final phase required the interviewee to move with the moderator to another room to conduct the qualitative interview. The interviews were recorded so that the opinions of the different participants could be compared and a final report could be prepared.
